In order to be successful in writing for athletic training, one must write in order for the audience to receive the intended message. Williams in his Phenomenology of Error mentions that errors can be hidden and can only be revealed by experience or if one was looking for that one specific error.

He portrays how the audience will sometimes not receive the message that is being conveyed because the readers will often look for mistakes in the writing rather than the meaning of the writing.

Structure is needed in order to write successfully in athletic training. In an article called Research Engagement: A key aspect in writing in athletic training is gaining experience.

In the article Reading and Writing without Authority, Penrose and Geisler write about how writing with authority correlates with experience. They used two test subjects to test this theory—Janet who was a freshman in college and Roger who was in school studying for his doctoral degree.

Both writers wrote fairly well, but it was obvious that Roger wrote with more authority—he writes with more confidence. Janet knew nothing about the study of ethics; Roger had become steeped in the tradition.

Roger had accumulated knowledge of the domain, its tissues and its customs; Janet had not. Roger knew how to write as an authority inside the conversation of ethics; Janet was an outsider looking in. Roger, with all the experience of writing, wrote with more authority and this made him a successful writer.

During my interview with Yoson, she mentioned that my junior year, I will be taking a high literature intensive course that consists of a lot of writing and research in order to aid me to succeed with my writing in the athletic training program.

This course will help me with having more experience in writing so that I will succeed in athletic training. The more experience I have writing within athletic training will result in writing with authority.

However, athletic trainers have to know the importance of history documentation. These notes do not have to be in formal writing, but they do need to be legible and state what needs to be conveyed. In athletic training, it is very important to document everything. This being said, it is very important to write everything that occurs down just so that the message is conveyed.

I agree with what Yoson mentions here because I feel as though it is very important to decipher between formal and informal writing and how to not use the two interchangeably. I believe that the ability of critical thinking is very important in the success of writing in athletic training.

Walker mentions how students need to get write to their point when writing in this field in the following quote. In-class and out-of-class assignments can also serve as powerful vehicles to allow students to expand their thinking processes. Emig believed that involving students in writing serves their learning uniquely because writing, as process and product, possesses a cluster of attributes that correspond uniquely to certain powerful learning strategies.

As a general rule, assignments for the purpose of promoting thought should be short not long term papers and focus on the aspect of thinking. In order to write successfully in athletic training, I need to get straight to the point.

I do not need to write elaborate long paper—I need to write what I am thinking and why I think that way. In athletic training, I can write informal papers when documenting history reports on an injured person and the actions taken.

These papers will be short and straight to the point so that the recipient can easily find what he or she is looking for without the difficulty of coming up with the unwritten message behind the writing. I learned that writing plays a major role within this field of study.

I have to make sure that my ideas in my writing or well structured. I also have to keep practicing my writing in order to gain experience in writing for athletic training so that I have authority in my writing.

Finally, critical thinking allows for me to get straight to the point in my writing which allows it to be easy to read by the recipient. If I do these things, I will be a very successful writer in this field.
